Colonial Veterinary Surgeon, £480 to £600 and a very

small sun from private practice. Has a wife, son nged 13, and daughter aged 12 in Ing md. He occupies his

own house on the outskirts of the City, having recently

built it on the proceeds of a legacy of £300 and a mort- -gage. He has no other property of any kind, and at the

■d of 1916 his account at his bank was overdrawn by

$280.

Chief Interpreter, Supreme Court, 2500. Lives in a poor quarter with a wife and seven children. He lives from hand to mouth, with nothing saved.

Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, 2450 to 2540 and £60 Duty Pay. Lives at Magazine Gap with a wife and three children. At the date of marrings he had saved

between £200 and £300. This is all gone, and he has nothing, his bank account being overdraw. He would now be seriously in debt, but for the fact that for some months past he has draw a special allowance of $80 a month; while recently he received a benus of $500-for assistance rendered to the University. He has no pros-

-pect of saving anything for passages.
